How much do crypto payment gateways charge?
Most custodial processors charge around 0.5%–1% of transaction volume, and some add a conversion or settlement spread on top when they move your funds to fiat or another asset. Self-custodial setups charge no percentage on volume because the payment never passes through a processor — you only pay the on-chain network fee when you spend the coins.
Why is a self-custodial gateway cheaper?
A custodial processor takes the crypto, holds it, and pays you later. That balance sheet, the compliance work and the payout rails all cost money, which is recovered as a percentage of your volume.
